Top-ranking international dressage couple Gareth and Rebecca Hughes chose Centriforce’s recycled plastic profiles as an attractive and durable alternative to conventional timber when building their new Olympic-size training arena in Warwickshire.

Gareth and Rebecca – Britain’s only husband and wife duo currently competing at international level – have built a brand new 20-acre facility for training their teams for national and international competition, including successful horses such as Classic Sandman, DV Stenkjers Nadonna and Aspen Grove Duvie.

More than 2000m of recycled plastic profiles have been installed to provide kickboards around the 60x20m indoor training arena which forms the centrepiece of their new team facilities based near Bishops Itchington in Warwickshire.

"Conventionally, softwood or hardwood boards are used as kickboards. However recycled plastic profiles are a much more practical alternative as they do not break or mark, so they last longer, look smarter and are easier to clean," said Rebecca. "It’s also reassuring to know that Centriforce products are 100% manufactured from plastic waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill or exported."

Rebecca and Gareth have moved from Oxfordshire to their new state-of-the-art facilities ready for winter training season. Both have won British dressage titles and compete regularly at international level. Gareth was nominated for London Olympics 2012.

The recycled plastic profiles are manufactured by Centriforce the UK’s largest independent plastics recycler, at its Liverpool manufacturing headquarters. They are made entirely from recycled HDPE and LDPE plastic, which would be otherwise destined for landfill or export. Their versatility and durability have made them an established alternative to timber in a wide range of industries.
