Centriforce has expanded its "closed-loop" portfolio into the retail sector with an exciting new venture with Waitrose to create outdoor furniture from used plastic bags and transit packaging.
The process is very straightforward, as Barry Keeling, Recycling Manager at Centriforce explains:
" The Waitrose stores bale up their used "Bags for Life" and transit packaging, and they are transported to our plant in Liverpool, where the reprocessed feedstock is blended with other recycled materials and extruded into post and plank profiles. These products are very robust and durable, rot-proof and non-absorbent.
"For that reason, they are favoured by our fabricator, Marmax Products, who use our recycled profiles to manufacture a range of outdoor furniture and packaging products at their fabrication site in county Durham.
"The profiles made from the Waitrose waste plastic are used by Marmax to produce outdoor furniture, which is then supplied back to Waitrose."
Waitrose has a long history of buying outdoor furniture made from its own waste plastic, and utilising this in a range of School and Community projects .
