Centriforce and TNT in green deal to help children

A green initiative by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, Centriforce and TNT is producing twin- track benefits for the environment and thousands of disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the UK.The environmental alliance – forged between the plastics recycling experts and Britain's leading outsourcing and business-to-business express delivery operator – provides a perfectly balanced partnership in conjunction with HMRC.

TNT are responsible for all the HMRC inter-site mail movements around the country
with documents and packages transported in distinctive green-coloured polylopes – polythene mailing satchels. Once used, the polylopes are then handed over by TNT to Centriforce which deploys a unique process to transform low-grade waste plastic into high-grade products that sell on merit in markets around the world. It makes great commercial sense, benefits the planet and has the added bonus of generating thousands of pounds in donations to the children's charity Wooden Spoon. The charity helps improve the quality of life and, in some cases, the expectation of life, for youngsters who are disadvantaged mentally, physically or socially.

Liverpool-based Centriforce makes a donation to Wooden Spoon – at the behest of TNT – for each and every item of polylope plastic they process on behalf of TNT.

Neil Hall, General Manager at TNT and the man who manages the relationship with HMRC and Centriforce, said: "We are delighted that we have an environmentally responsible and
secure way of recycling this unwanted plastic and – at the same time – delivering big benefits to Wooden Spoon."

The polylopes themselves are recycled to make all manner of products including underground cable covers and affordable school playground furniture. To help facilitate the collection of used polylopes, 200,000 specialist clear recycling sacks are used in the operation. Barry Keeling, Recycling Manager at Centriforce Products, enthused: "We share the same enthusiasm of both TNT and their customers for a recycling scheme which provides a secure and sustainable solution to a complex waste issue. "The added bonus lies in the fact that we are now involved in TNT's imaginative fundraising
programme to benefit the Wooden Spoon and the wonderful work it undertakes for some
really deserving causes."
